The problem

A flat has fixed walls and no spare square metres. Everything that matters has to happen in the thickness of what is already there.

Bedrooms

Each bedroom gets a panelled headboard wall, a full-height wardrobe finished flush, and a work surface — desk, dresser or both — built into the same run rather than standing in the room.

The children’s room

Two beds, two desks and the storage over them, drawn as one piece of joinery so the floor stays clear.

Kitchen and dining

Colour does the dividing where a wall would have cost space: the kitchen in rose and green, the dining separated by a slatted screen rather than a partition.
