Studio

A design practice rooted in place, material, proportion and time.

We are

A design-led practice working across architecture, civil execution and interiors.

Mesopotamia takes its name from an idea of origins — the place where settlement, culture and architecture began to take shape. We want the work to feel contemporary without being detached from those roots.

We value materiality, proportion, light, craft and context. We avoid trend-chasing, unnecessary ornament and visual noise. Our work is original by intent, never copied, never trend-led — spaces that feel inevitable, calm and lasting.

Over the past 10 years the team has worked across residential architecture, interiors and civil execution, largely in and around Hyderabad, with projects in Goa and Kerala.

Why both

A drawing is a promise. Execution is whether it is kept.

Many practices stop at the drawing. Many builders start after it. The space between is where most of the disappointment in this industry lives — and it is nobody's job to own it.

We hold architecture, civil execution and interiors in one team so that the same people who drew the junction are there when it is built. Where a client prefers their own contractor, we say so plainly: we can protect the intent through supervision, but not to the same degree.

What each service covers

The design language

What makes a house feel like ours

  • 01

    Daylight first

Every main room gets daylight from at least one side, so you switch fewer lights on during the day.

  • 02

    Honest materials

Stone, wood, lime, metal, plaster. Bought near the site where we can, so repairs are easy years later.

  • 03

    Shapes that do a job

An arch or a curve only where it shades, spans or turns a corner. A curve added for looks costs money and ages badly.

  • 04

    Room to breathe

Calm rooms, good proportions, nothing crowded. Space is the one thing you cannot add later.

  • 05

    Clean joints

Where two materials meet, we draw it. A shadow gap instead of a beading strip, because that is the bit you see every day.

  • 06

    Made to be lived in

Plants, books, shoes, people. The house should look better with your life in it, not worse.

A recognisable language, without forcing every project into the same aesthetic.

The working palette

  • Lime plasterBreathes, and can be repaired in patches.
  • Kota stoneLocal, hard-wearing, gets better with use.
  • TeakUsed where hands touch it — doors, handles, edges.
  • Exposed concreteLeft as cast, so it has to be right the first time.
  • Country brickLocal, and forgiving to build with.
  • Mild steel and brassSmall pieces, made to size, not bought off a shelf.

Nothing is approved from a screen. Samples are seen in the hand, in daylight.

The studio in practice

A small team, and you will know which of us is on your project.

There are few enough of us that the person who draws your junction is the person who checks it on site. No account manager sits between you and the decision.
